Job Description

OPD supervisor's primary responsibility is planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the delivery of outpatient patient services and will oversee the entire outpatient care center. Typical work duties include establishing facility objectives, ensuring compliance with government regulations, starting staff development programs, creating budgets, overseeing patient billing, devising shift schedules, resolving complex patient inquiries or issues, and evaluating clinical staff's work. 

CLINICAL

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to his/her specialty, i.e. perform as a nurse whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
  • Practices within the scope of duties while rendering safe patients care. Takes on a patient workload when required.
  • Implement all protocols, hygiene procedures, and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
  • Carry out the pharmaceutical and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his/her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilizes effective communication with and between all members of the health care team, administrators, patients and relatives.
  • Collaborates with medical staff and other health care professionals on matters of patient care, and any other activity that could affect the delivery of that care.
  • Ensures that the standard of nursing care and the procedures performed within the unit are of a high quality.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing psychological support to patients, family and friends
  • Take responsibility for the number of needs or specific clinics as assigned.
  • Ensure the staff work in an environment that protects their health and safety.
  • Act as a translator if needed
  • Ensures that equipment and resources are maintained and used economically and effectively.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Handle complaints or other issues.
  • Supervise nursing staff in carrying out clinical duties in a patient care setting. Coordinate nursing functions with doctors, surgeons and physicians.
  • Develops, in collaboration with Clinical Operations Manager and Patient Operation Manager, and implement an outpatient department strategy that is aligned to the center's vision and its current and long-term business objectives. 
  • Leads, directs, and controls all outpatient policies, procedures, and activities so that they meet the center's overall business objectives and protect the organizations patient relationship and public reputation.
  • Liaises with other department heads across the organization to ensure that outpatient strategies and activities are integrated with other parts of the organization and align with the facility's overall objectives.
  • Ensures that all activities are conducted accurately, ethically, and according to the relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Manages the OPD staff, organizing staffing schedules to meet the needs for the OPD service, monitoring their performance for the purpose of periodic assessment and reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager.
  • Continuously evaluates staff competency levels & keep them up to date with healthcare trends.
  • Participates in staff assessment and development programs, regularly advises staff of their progress via performance reviews, and gives guidance in improving their level of performance.
  • Prepares and submits reports on the OPD functions.
  • Develops and coordinates the Quality/Performance Improvement Program within his/her area of responsibilities.
  • Ensures all grades of staff attend Fire Lectures annually and are updated with the various regulations relating to the OSHMS Policy.
  • Ensures staffs are familiar with disaster response.
  • Carry-out and coordinate information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/outcome and support decision-taking to the Nurse Manager.
