Job Summary: The Cost Accountant will play a crucial role in analyzing, monitoring, and controlling the costs associated with our manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Senior Accountant or the Accounting Manager, the Cost Accountant will collaborate closely with various departments to gather cost-related data, perform cost analyses, and provide valuable insights to support decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis and Monitoring:
Analyze production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead expenses, to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Monitor manufacturing processes and identify areas for cost optimization and improvement.
Conduct regular cost variance analysis to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Inventory Management:
Collaborate with Inventory Control team to maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
Assess inventory valuation methods and recommend adjustments to align with financial objectives.
Product Costing:
Calculate and maintain standard costs for all products manufactured by the company.
Develop and implement costing models to accurately allocate costs and determine product profitability.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, providing cost-related insights and recommendations.
Monitor actual costs against budgeted figures and investigate variances.
Cost Control Initiatives:
Propose and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality standards.
Participate in cross-functional teams to evaluate cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare cost-related reports, including cost of goods sold (COGS), manufacturing variances, and other cost analysis reports for management review.
Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements in all cost-related activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Proven experience as a Cost Accountant in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the furniture or mattress industry.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Proficiency in cost accounting principles, inventory management, and financial analysis.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for cost analysis and reporting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Detail-oriented and organized, with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
Working Conditions: This position operates primarily in an office environment within the manufacturing facility. Occasional visits to production areas may be required to gather data and assess manufacturing processes.
